Grayfas the Wolf

This next drawing I've done features a character from an obscure anime TV show that came out in Japan in 1995 called "Wild Knights Gulkeeva". As far as I know, almost nobody knows about that show as it's another one of those rare titles that unfortunately was never released in America. But this particular anime has caught my attention and interest as it has an interesting concept, story, and cast of characters.

I first learned about the show only a few years back when I was browsing the internet for anime, and came across a few sources on the internet with only brief descriptions and information regarding this particular title. Because it was never given a US release, it's nearly impossible to find any information on the net regarding obscure anime such as this. To my complete surprise, Wild Knights Gulkeeva was produced by Sunrise, the same company behind such popular anime like Gundam, Dirty Pair, Ronin Warriors, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Outlaw Star, and so many others.

Anyway, the character's name is Grayfas. He's a humanoid wolf dude and is one of the main characters in the show who along with two other beast-warriors named Gariel (a gorilla) and Beakwood, (an eagle) aid a young boy named Touya Shinjou, who just so happens to be a reincarnation of an ancient warrior named Radias.

As far as records go, Grayfas is arguably my top favorite character from the show so far. Judging by the few episodes I've been able to find, Grayfas is not exactly the wisest or the most mature of the three beast-men as he can be somewhat immature and in some cases a little childlike. But otherwise, he has a likable attitude and he usually tries his best to be supportive and encouraging towards Touya although he doesn't have as much patience as Beakwood does. His attire consists of a weird but distinctive suit of armor, complete with a golden head-dress, a jewel on the chest plate, and a cape, giving him that classic "superhero" look. His weapon of choice is a power whip which seemingly has unlimited range and acts somewhat like a lightsaber because of the fact that it can extend and then retract back into the handle.

This drawing took me at least three hours to complete as Grayfas's armor is a bit complicated as well as his cape. But the most difficulty I had was with his head-dress as it has kind of a weird shape which I had some considerable trouble with. Before I end this, I want to say that after watching the first two episodes I was able to find, I have to admit that I think Wild Knights Gulkeeva is really quite an interesting show. Especially for a series that was released back in the mid 90s. However, even to this day, it has yet to recieve a US release, which sadly at this time seems unlikely. But we can always pray though. Anyway, this is my very first sketch of Grayfas, the Wolf Warrior. Hope some of you out there enjoy!
