Starfox-Fara Phoenix

Description

As far as I know, very few fans even remember or know who this is. But she was a character in the early stories of the Starfox universe when the franchise first began back in the early 90s. Fara Phoenix was introduced in the exclusive Nintendo Power Starfox comics as Fox McCloud's original love interest, long before Krystal was introduced to the series back in 2002. She was created by Benimaru Itoh. Interestingly, some sources indicate that her surname is pronounced as "fennecs" despite how it's written in English. Though this is probably misleading. In the 1993 Nintendo Power Comics, Fara was the daughter of the owner of the Spaceship Magnate and the Chief Test pilot who introduces the Starfox team to the Arwings. She also catches the attention of Fox McCloud because of her strong resemblance to Fox's deceased mother Vixy Reynard. Throughout the course of the story, Fara Phoenix acts as a helpful and valuable asset to the Starfox team, and even joins them in several of their missions.

However, Fara Phoenix has not appeared in any of the published games to date and was completely discarded from the storyline as the series was rebooted with the release of Starfox 64. Based on the information I've received from various online sources, it was rumored that Fara was going to appear in the unreleased Starfox 2, which was supposed to have been released for the SNES back in 1995. However, she was excluded from the final version of the game before it was ultimately canceled and discarded from the series. The reasons as to why Nintendo never released this game is unknown. But it's most likely because of the fact that 1995 had marked a time when the SNES had become outdated, and was soon to be replaced by the Nintendo 64, which hit stores back in 1996. As far as records go, Fara is one of the most forgotten characters of the Starfox universe.

As fate would have it, Fara Phoenix has received a bit of a mixed reputation from the fanbase; some people like her and some people don't. And since release of Starfox Adventures back in 2002, Fara has since been replaced with Krystal as Fox's love interest. Because of this, it is very unlikely that we will ever see her in a future Starfox game or story arc. But be that as it may, I believe that there is still room for Fara, seeing as the Starfox concept has never truly been explored in such dramatic ways like other video game franchises have in the last few years. In fact, as a true Starfox fan, I'm not biased towards either Fara or Krystal as I love them both just the same. In my opinion, I think Fara is every bit as charismatic as Krystal is although she is pretty much non-cannon and unofficial. In fact, I still see a whole lot of potential for a number of different story arcs to be explored in the Starfox universe. Because now that I think of it, I think the story in the franchise has that potential to run on multiple different paths and continuities. The same way how various comic-book franchises have taken different routes in their story-line history, I think Starfox has that ability as well. In other words, in one continuity, Fara could serve as Fox's girlfriend, and in a different continuity, Krystal could be Fox's girlfriend. In my point of view, there are endless possibilities. And those possibilities can be explored with either Fara or Krystal.

Starfox, Fara Phoenix, is the property of Benimaru Itoh and Nintendo.

Someday, I might write a fan fiction on Star Fox that's basically a retelling of the first few games except 64 (since that game's a remake of the first game), I'd have Miyu and Fay on the team from the start, and I'd have Fara as Fox's love interest instead of Krystal (even though I do like her, I personally would make her only appear in the chapter based on Adventures). I'll have Fara appear later in the story during the Star Fox 2 chapter.

Personally, Fara along with Miyu and Fay are the most underrated female characters in the series (and I kinda prefer them over Krystal). Nice that you remember her.
