Road Rovers OC - Tsunami

Before I go over this, I want to start by saying that I have mentioned this guy in one of my earlier deviations which was basically an idea I had for a RR video game. More specifically, he was listed in the description as a playable character for the fictional arcade game Road Rovers 2, which of course is just an idea I made up. But you guys will be surprised to know that I actually invented Tsunami long before I even came up with the idea for a RR arcade game. In fact, I invented him around the same time I invented Geist. But I haven’t drawn him in quite a while now since I first joined Deviantart. So this is the first sketch I’ve made of him in a short number of years.

Tsunami is basically another one of my Road Rover OCs who serves as a newly recruited member of the Road Rovers in my fanfiction. Similar to how such fan-characters like Huntress, DJ, and Dylan serve as additions to the team in various other fanfics that have been written. Tsunami is an Akita-Inu from Japan. Most of his background and origin is unknown. But it is believed that he was originally one of Dr. Psycho’s highly trained soldiers alongside Blitz’s evil brother Geist and was once on the side of evil. But having beliefs completely contrary to those of his masters, he later betrayed Parvo and Dr. Psycho, and earns his place a member of the Road Rovers. He is also known as Hachiro Kazama, which is his family name given to him by his original owner before he became one of Dr. Psycho’s warriors. As most people probably know by now, “Tsunami” is the Japanese word for “Tidal Wave”. And Dr. Psycho, his creator, most likely gave him this name to symbolize his destructiveness in battle due to his physical strength, and the numerous advantages he possesses through his ability to harness ki energy.

Physical Description: Tsunami stands a little above average height, standing roughly 5’10, and weighing about 175 pounds. He has a well-developed muscular body, and has a similar build to Exile. He is very strong, agile, and athletic. Tsunami’s fur coat consists of the standard colors of his breed; having sort of a brownish fur coat with white arms, legs, belly, face, and eye brows. Tsunami usually keeps a blank expressionless face, and has large fierce eye brows that closely resemble those of the manga character Golgo 13. His eyes are kind of a bluish green sort of hue. As an Akita, Tsunami normally keeps his tail curled in sort of a spiral shape. His facial features are partly inspired by that of Riki, a character from the 1986 anime cartoon Ginga Nagareboshi Gin. Tsunami wears his own custom armor which closely resembles the classic Road Rover uniform, but has a more distinctive and detailed design, and later becomes the standard uniform for the team in my fanfiction. When designing Tsunami’s armor, I based part of the design on that of samurai armor with the detailed gauntlets, shoulder pads, and boots. I especially tried to give the chest plate a unique design using these influences. I guess part of my inspiration for this design came from the 1988 anime cartoon Ronin Warriors, which didn’t come to the US until the summer of 1995. Though now that I think of it, Tsunami’s outfit looks like a cross between the classic Road Rover uniform and a suit of samurai armor.

Personality: Tsunami is a very courageous and dignified warrior who lives by the way of the samurai; he fears not death, but is willing to fight for others and is willing to die with a sense of dignity. However, he does not hesitate to fight when necessary. Because if attacked in anyway, physically or otherwise, he will defend himself. Tsunami’s personality is modeled after ancient warriors from Japan’s Middle Ages. In fact, he is what most people may call a modern day samurai not only in terms of personality and customs, but also in mind and spirit as well. Tsunami is not judgmental towards others around him, and is not annoyed by Blitz’s ego. In fact, due to his wise and somewhat father-like personality, he usually does his best to give advice and encouragement to others. But he often speaks in riddles, making it hard for others to understand him. He speaks English and Japanese fluently. But since English is not his native language, Tsunami may sometimes utter phrases or speak a full sentence in his native language instinctively, which can cause others around him to exclaim “In English please?” Upon Blitz’s return to the team, Tsunami takes it upon himself to act as Blitz’s guide and mentor, and trains him to be a better fighter. He also helps him overcome some of his most notable character flaws such as his cowardice and his selfishness, and helps him become a stronger, braver, and more loyal version of himself. True to his breed, Tsunami is a loyal ally to his friends, and is always willing to help out. He has a decent sense of humor, but is also strict and serious when he needs to be.

Powers and Abilities: Tsunami is a master of several different kinds of martial arts ranging from Karate, Judo, and Aikido. He is also an expert in weapons, but often fights with a variety of samurai and ninja style weapons ranging from the spear, daggers, nunchucks, bow staff, and shuriken. Tsunami is especially a master of the samurai sword, and can perform a number of killer techniques by channeling his ki energy into the blade of the sword, enabling him to perform devastating blows that can mean certain death for the victim. He can channel spiritual energy into either his own body, or into the weapons he uses, enabling him to perform super charged attacks. He doesn’t normally carry a sword. But he uses whatever is usable. In either hand to hand combat or weapons, Tsunami is a fierce and lethal fighter with a feared reputation.

Accent: Tsunami speaks with a low-pitched Japanese accent and sounds similar to Japanese actor Ken Watanabe.

1. Golgo 13 for his expressionless face, dignity, stamina, and prowess.
2. Ryu from Street Fighter for his courage, determination, strength, and the harnessing of ki.
3. Hattori Hanzo for his mastery in martial arts, weapons, and philosophical insight.
4. Optimus Prime for his father like wisdom.
